Award-Winning Filmmaker and Founder of Gary Chong Studios (a production house which has produced over 508 videos over the past 8 years for MNC and GLC brands such as DIGI, Axiata, Ecoworld, AXA, Berjaya, Dumex, Taylor’s Group, Foodpanda, Mah Sing, Sunway, Maybank, Carlsberg, Alliance Bank and many others).

Moonlighting as a Lecturer in the School of Liberal Arts (ADP) of Taylor’s University in the area of film and communications for the past 7 years

Frequently invited to give talks on filmmaking and has conducted workshops in the area of filmmaking for the New Straits Times, Malaysian Association of Creativity and Innovation (MACRI) and KL CONVERGE 2015.

Helped in the curation of the new Performing Arts Conservatory Degree at the said university. 

Conducted workshops on a national level via various university events and workshops throughout Penang, Kuala Lumpur and Sabah.

Engaged to speak at a Film and Media Conference in the University of London, Bedford Way. 

Written newspaper articles on filmmaking, published in an academic journal and appeared in various TV interview programmes. 

As of 2019, he holds an appointed post as the Advertising, Film and Communications Industry Advisor for Universiti Sains Malaysia, sitting on the board of advisors under the purview of the Vice-Chancellor.

Past business experiences outside of Gary Chong Studios would be playing a role in the co-founding of a music education institution called the Academy Music Centre.

Published more than 50 articles that discusses about the idiosyncrasies of Malaysians and about the failings of the Malaysian education system as a columnist at ALIRAN online.

Presented papers at more than 20 conferences around the world, namely at Cambridge, Melbourne, Osaka, Jakarta and Singapore.

Academic assessor and external examiner for various Communication programmes and levels of study at UNIMAS, SEGI University, KDU University College and Han Chiang University College of Communication.

Part of the editorial boards of Communication journals in Malaysia.

A filmmaking competition, guest speaker, keynote speaker and workshop facilitator at event such as the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF), and at universities in Australia, Japan, Indonesia, Singapore and  Malaysia.

Has educated students from preschool, primary, secondary, tertiary education (Diploma to PhD). He has graduated one PhD student, 15 Masters students, and thousands of Bachelors degree undergraduates and hundreds of diploma students.

Directed a number of award winning and nominations for short documentaries as well as award winning videos with his students at competitions such as the Singapore International Film Festival (SGIFF) and Kuala Lumpur Eco Film Festival (KLEFF)

Currently involved as the programme leader and teacher at the St Paul’s Community Computer Centre (SPCCC) at his church in Penang which is currently going into it’s forth year.
